With well over 25 competitors in the division, placing was tough but we managed to win 2 bronze medals!

Meg Niehuus won a bronze in Individual Creative Poomsae to music, and Paul Tran also won bronze in Individual Traditional Poomsae. Olivia missed out on a placing, with her division being the biggest and the toughest of the lot!

Our strong colour belt team took home a bag of medals today, even golds!

Our first gold of the competition was won by Jasmine Tanton, beating team mate Lauren Alderton who won the silver in Individual Traditional poomsae. It was a big success to see 2 South Aussies in first and second place!

The pair later teamed up in pair’s poomsae, winning the silver medal and only just missing out on the gold by a fraction of a point!

The medal tally did not stop there...

Lachi Thomas won bronze in the Individual Tradition Poomsae after hard work of corrections the night before. This is a huge achievement for Lachi, because in the past 6 months he had been struggling in this field. Hard work does pay off! Well done Lachi great effort to take a medal from such a big and tough division.

Team mate Thomas Whitaker missed out on a placing in this division. Other competitors that missed out on medals were, Shane Scriven, Kristina Fitzroy and Jacky Huynh. Well done for their efforts and keep on trying!

Moving on to the Pairs Creative Poomsae to music, Cookies N Cream (Jessica & Desi) won our second Gold medal and left a sweet taste in the spectators mouth wanting more! They did an awesome routine all in time and great to watch!

Jessica then competed in the Individual Creative Poomsae to music winning a silver medal, only just missing out!

Thomas Whitaker & Jessica Scriven paired up to compete in the Pairs Poomsae but no avail. Last year they won silver in this event but did not place this year, it was really tough! Well done to all colour belts today!

Another gold to our tally was won by Thomas Whitaker! Great job winning all 3 bouts and the final, which he won 8–0.

Competition sparring was fierce this year, the quality was very high and placing a medal today was hard work, battling the humid Queensland conditions and long waiting times in between bouts. The team was really affected and it showed in some of the first timers like Jacky Huynh who won a silver medal. Jacky beat his opponent with flying colours in the first round but was exhausted in the second round due to the conditions. Well done Jacky!!

Also an impressive performance by first timer Jasmine Tanton winning the bronze after winning a really tough first round, then going on to the second round with a tougher opponent. An illegal strike to the face from her opponent forced Jasmine out an into the first aid area to recover! Such a great effort from Jasmine over the event, she took home 3 medals overall just like Jessica Scriven! Well done girls!!

Our other competitors Jessica Scriven, Desi Antonas and Lachi Thomas all took home a bronze medal for their huge efforts! Well done team!

This by far was the toughest day of the whole event! Selection of weight divisions cost most our Black Belts medals. Their opponents were huge, some a foot taller!

Paul Tran won our only medal today and it was a silver! Injury in the previous match played on his metal ability to attack. But was a great effort, well done Paul.

Both our junior girls Melissa Thomas and Maddie Granozio fought 2 divisions, Juniors and Seniors. Melissa only lost by 1 point in her juniors and missed out on a medal. Maddie won both her first rounds and then only just losing her second round due to injury and unexpected scoring that was challenged.

Meg had to pull out due to a fractured wrist and Manuel put up the toughest match of he’s taekwondo career in a “David n Goliath” match up! Bruised and battered from being kicked below the belt and an illegal face hit put Manuel off his game!

What we don’t realise being spectators that what these competitors face is extremely tough, both mentally and physically, especially in Black Belt Divisions! Let’s give our team members huge congratulations for their hard efforts to represent our club and our state.
